How to play Reaction Challenge

Choose a round of Reaction Challenge and settle into its rules. Finish five valid responses. An early click does not count as a completed response; start that attempt again. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Make your first input carefully and watch the result. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Try a deliberate move

After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Make the next step deliberately.

Your goal

Finish five valid responses. An early click does not count as a completed response; start that attempt again. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Check the rules when you are unsure.

Step by step

  1. Start a round and wait without clicking.
  2. When GO appears, click or tap the large target.
  3. Read your response time and start the next round.
  4. After five rounds, the game shows the mean time.

Controls

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.

A useful example

A valid 250 ms response counts. Clicking during WAIT is too early and must be repeated. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Consider the next action carefully.

Watch out for this

Browser scheduling, screen refresh and input hardware can affect the measurement. It is not a medical test. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
