How to play Snake

Start Snake by looking at the playing area and its controls. Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

Build a steady rhythm

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Make the next step deliberately.

Your goal

Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Review the board or playing area as it changes.

Step by step

  1. Press Play to start the movement.
  2. Turn with arrow keys, swipes or the on-screen direction buttons.
  3. Each apple adds ten points and makes the snake longer.
  4. Pause when needed or start a new round.

Controls

Keyboard arrows, swipe gestures or the four direction buttons. Play / pause controls the movement. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Look at the feedback after the action.

A useful example

When moving right, you may turn up or down, but cannot turn immediately left into your own neck. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Check the stated objective.

Watch out for this

The snake continues moving between inputs. Plan a route with space to turn. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal.
